Greater Manchester transport boss continues as Chair of Urban Transport Group
Steve Warrener, Managing Director of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), will continue to be Chair of the Urban Transport Group for an additional year.
The extension of Steve’s two-year term – which was approved by the UTG Board - comes at a pivotal moment for city regions as the majority of UTG’s Principal Members move towards Integrated Settlements.
As Managing Director of TfGM, Steve brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the UTG Board. He joined TfGM in 2007 and is now responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation, which has an annual expenditure of around £1 billion.
During his time at TfGM, Steve has overseen the launch and implementation of the Bee Network, as well as the delivery of other key programmes and projects such as the major extensions to Metrolink, Stockport Interchange and the Leigh Guided Busway, and major active travel investment of over 120km of new, safe and accessible walking, wheeling and cycling routes.
Steve became Chair of UTG in February 2023.
Steve Warrener said:
“With further devolutionary powers and greater fiscal responsibility, city region transport authorities have an even bigger role to play in ensuring that transport services truly deliver for their communities. But authorities continue to face similar challenges around funding, climate change and skills, to name just a few. The Urban Transport Group’s network of transport authorities is therefore more important than ever in collectively responding to and finding the solutions to these issues.
“I’m delighted to be able to continue the important work of the UTG Board and thank my fellow Board members for asking me to stay on in the role for another year.”
The Urban Transport Group’s Board is made up of seven Directors - one from each of its full members.
