UTG appointed as secretariat for Mass Transit Taskforce
The Urban Transport Group has been appointed as the secretariat for the new Mass Transit Taskforce, announced today by government.
The taskforce has been established to tackle the barriers to the delivery of mass transit systems across the UK.
Working independently, and led by Chair Bridget Rosewell CBE, the taskforce will draw on best practice from across the world to make recommendations on how mass transit systems (such as tram, light rail systems or rapid buses) can be delivered quickly.
Jason Prince, Director of the Urban Transport Group, will sit on the taskforce. David Milner, Managing Director of Create Streets, and Richard de Cani, Chief Officer for Global Business and Markets at Arup, have also been confirmed. The full membership and immediate next steps will be announced in due course.
Jason Prince said:
“Mass transit is absolutely vital for our member transport authorities and their ambitions to improve connectivity, support new developments and unlock the full economic potential of their local communities.
“We are delighted that the Urban Transport Group has been asked to act as secretariat for the taskforce. We look forward to working with the Chair to support this hugely important piece of work on the future of mass transit across the country."
